The hospitals of GECAMINES SA have been recognized by the National Healthy Ministry as Reference Hospitals in their respective health zones. In 2012, the hospitals of GECAMINES Sarl admitted 34,835 total sick people to hospitals, 56% of which were third parties.

The mining boom, along with the presence of several mining companies in the Katanga province, has opened up major opportunities for healthcare contracts between GECAMINES medical service and these companies.

History

The Gécamines SA medical service was set up at the start of the mining exploitation activities, its aim being to ensure the company had a healthy workforce who were fit for the job. During its development, it had to expand to the families of company employees (expatriates and nationals).

At the provincial and even national levels, the Gécamines SA medical service sets new standards, thanks to its versatile technical platform. The service’s three Groups include hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, healthcare centers, and workplace medicine social centers (WMSC).

Today, the Gécamines SA medical service is the last and hoped-for resort for all of Katanga province’s sick people. Gecamines SA makes efforts—to the extent its resources allow—to maintain its technical level.
